brief writeup about who the Food Security table
1. Purpose/ Mission
The purpose is to create a just and sustainable food system through collaboration with the community, including businesses, agencies, groups and residents.
2. Goals: Based on the four recommendations from the food security report.
a. To improve collaboration and capacity building to address Community food security at the local level
b. To promote a sustainable local food system
c. Advocate for and Strengthen Policy Based Solutions
3. Values
The committee operates under the following values:
• Collaboration: We work in unison with partners at the table and others to achieve our goals.
•Inclusivity: We take into account the diverse groups in our community when making decisions/advocating alongside these groups.
•Respect: We create a safe, non-judgemental space where diverse opinions are heard. This in turn builds trust, stronger relationships and participation.
•Diversity: We celebrate the diversity living in our community and we value their contributions. We strive for a process which includes voices from different backgrounds to ensure dignity.
•Equity: We understand people in our community have different needs and face many social challenges that diminishes their access to food.
•Sustainability: We work towards lasting relationships in the community to improve the food system. The committee seeks financial and sustainable models to maintain the table’s functions.
